in the last seven years. Given the increased share of domestic participants, it lowers the
reliance on foreign capital and makes domestic markets relatively less vulnerable to
external shocks. Is the FII still needed? Very much so, and they remain a dominant holder
and driver of capital access. But the emergence of the domestic equity investor, their likely
commitment and consistency in allocation is structurally widening the pool, and changing
the dynamics of capital availability for India’s businesses.
