THE NEW EDGE
The ‘raw’ material’s there
India’s current demography is unique: The country is home to one of the youngest populations in the world, of which
62% makes up the working age group and nearly 55% is aged below 25. Clearly, the country need not worry about
the physical dearth of human capital—now, or even for decades to come. While this demographic dividend is an
edge in its own sense, India’s new edge in human capital is essentially untapped. It is ready to be honed though—by
leveraging the skill and ability of this youth to drive productive output and innovation.
This last decade provided a solid impetus to education and skill-led entrepreneurship in India, which in turn has
capital and how it stepped up the game wherein investors were ready to dole out large sums of capital. That more
than 40 startups achieved the unicorn status in 2021 itself is a remarkable reminder of the agility of India’s human
capital that’s ready to tap into topical themes. Bravo.
